Stephanie brings S360 education clients a savvy understanding of political communications with the sense of urgency required for a rapidly changing campaign atmosphere. As Education Communications Director, Stephanie helps school districts pass bonds and levies through communications collateral including print copy, press support, and social media management.

Before joining S360, Stephanie was a Legislative Correspondent with Congressman John Sarbanes (MD-03). There, she managed the Congressman’ constituent response program, identified and drafted proactive emails to engage constituents, drafted social media posts, created graphics for the Congressman’s social media pages, and helped frame messages for the Congressman’s priorities. She also oversaw the offices’ internship program and introduced a mentorship program to provide a more fulfilling intern experience.

Stephanie got her start in politics as a Field Organizer for the Hillary Clinton campaign in North Carolina. There she participated in voter outreach and education. She also engaged volunteers by leading a Twitter campaign to encourage the cast of The West Wing to visit Concord, North Carolina – and they did. This creative campaign is an extension of Stephanie’s early experience in the entertainment industry, first working for the reality show, Big Brother, and then as an Associate Casting Producer.

Stephanie grew up in California and graduated with a BA in sociology and minor in theater arts and design from UC Santa Barbara. She still enjoys creative pursuits, participating in improv programs. While she calls the West Coast home, Stephanie is also an avid traveler.

She uses her extensive knowledge of government relations, public affairs, and communications to work on cross-disciplinary, national and international projects for clients across the firm footprint. With her in-depth history in education policy, Karen also runs Strategies 360’s education division.

A passionate advocate for child welfare and public education, Karen manages a wide range of projects, from directing voter campaigns to crafting policy at the state and federal level to implementing grassroots efforts and conducting media outreach. She was instrumental in the creation of the Washington Department of Children, Youth and Families to better serve the state’s most vulnerable young people; has helped local school districts across Washington pass bonds and levies to improve the lives of schoolchildren; lead efforts to secure crucial funding for birth to five education and expansions of STEM and CTE programs; and championed statewide campaigns to advance equity in business practices.

Before joining S360, Karen worked at two other consulting firms and as deputy state director for Sen. Patty Murray, where she oversaw outreach with constituents and helped develop legislative responses, appropriations requests and grant support for Washington communities. During the Clinton administration, she worked as a member of the White House advance team on trips by officials to the Pacific Northwest. She has served on the boards of the Municipal League of King County, EarthCorps, Washington Wilderness Coalition and the Wilderness Volunteer Corps.

A native of Rochester, N.Y., Karen holds a master’s degree in educational policy analysis from Stanford University and a B.A. in sociology from William Smith College. In 2024, she continued her education completing a 6-course certificate program in Strategic Change Management from Cornell University’s School of Business. An avid trail-runner, downhill skier and stand-up paddleboarder, Karen lives in Seattle with her husband, Colin, and their two sons. She can frequently be found pacing the sidelines of her sons’ soccer tournaments.
