Karen Waters
Senior Vice President

Karen Waters uses her extensive knowledge of government relations, public affairs and communications to run Strategies 360’s education division.

A passionate advocate for public education, Karen manages a wide range of projects, from directing voter campaigns to crafting policy at the state and federal level to implementing grassroots efforts and conducting media outreach.

Karen joined S360 from Thompson Smitch Consulting Group, where she was a vice president. Before that, she served six years in the office of Senator Patty Murray, most recently as the deputy state director. Karen oversaw outreach with constituents and helped develop legislative responses, appropriations requests and grant support for Washington communities.

Prior to joining Senator Murray's office, Karen was a senior project manager at Pyramid Communications. During the Clinton Administration, she worked as a member of the White House Advance Team on trips by officials to the Pacific Northwest.

She currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Municipal League of King County and has served on the boards of EarthCorps, Washington Wilderness Coalition and the Wilderness Volunteer Corps.

After college, Karen made a valiant effort to avoid the 9-to-5 scene, bartending in Paris and working on a farm in southern France. A native of Rochester, N.Y., Karen holds a master's degree in educational policy analysis from Stanford University and a B.A. in sociology from William Smith College. She lives in Seattle with her husband, Colin, and their two children.
