Matt draws on extensive experience as an advisor to high government officials to direct much of S360’s extensive energy and climate practice.
With projects in states around the country, his work covers renewable energy development, traditional electric utility service, infrastructure building, biomass, hydropower, alternative fuels and technology development.
Recent successes include negotiating a bipartisan agreement for an orderly closure of a coal-powered power plant, and acquiring permits for a major new solar project in less than a year.
Matt provides strategic policy advice on the linkage between energy and climate issues to multinational firms, utilities, and not-for-profit organizations. He is actively engaged in regional and national policy debates and maintains strong ties to policymakers.
He also teaches energy and climate policy at the University of Washington’s Evans School of Public Administration. Prior to joining Strategies 360, Matt served as Governor Chris Gregoire’s top advisor on energy and climate issues, as well as numerous other issues.
Matt's newest hobby is flyfishing, which he has embraced with far more enthusiasm than skill. He also enjoys snowboarding when his work, family and his back permit.
Matt has a Master’s Degree in public administration from the University of Washington and a B.A. in political science from University of California-San Diego. He lives in Seattle with his wife and two young sons.
