Senior Vice President
Matt draws on extensive experience as an advisor to high government officials to direct much of S360’s extensive energy and natural resources practice.
With projects in several western states, his work covers renewable energy development, traditional electric utility service, forest products, agriculture, hydropower, traditional and alternative fuels, manufacturing and technology development.
Recent successes include negotiating a bipartisan agreement for an orderly closure of a coal-powered power plant, acquiring permits for a major new solar project in less than a year and assisting agricultural clients managing media and community relationships during litigation.
Matt provides strategic policy advice to multinational firms, utilities, and not-for-profit organizations. Many of his projects involve extremely complex permitting issues involving communities, policymakers, the media and a wide range of stakeholders. He is actively engaged in regional and national policy formation, and maintains strong ties to policymakers.
He also teaches energy and climate policy at the University of Washington’s Evans School of Public Administration. Prior to joining Strategies 360, Matt served as Gov. Chris Gregoire’s top advisor on energy and climate issues, as well as numerous other issues.
Matt has a Master’s Degree in public administration from the University of Washington and a B.A. in political science from University of California-San Diego. He lives in Seattle with his wife and two young sons.
Matt's newest hobby is flyfishing, which he has embraced with far more enthusiasm than skill. He also enjoys snowboarding when his work, family and his back permit.
