Oregon Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence
Oregon Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence
The Challenge
Maintain full funding for state services to victims of domestic and sexual violence in the midst of a $3.5 billion budget crisis.
The Strategy
Developed champions on the Ways and Means Committee, and specifically the public safety and human services sub-committees.
Created collateral materials to highlight what would be lost without full funding for the program, which in too many cases are lives.
Activated the network of state-wide service providers to publicly demonstrate in-district grassroots support to legislators.
Coordinated a state-wide media campaign, reaching out to all major media outlets, regarding our Steps-of-the-Capitol Rally and Advocacy Day that the Capitol (organized by Strategies 360) to show legislators broad public support for funding victims services.
The Success
State programs actually increased levels of funding for the direct services Oregon provides to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, including an additional $1 million in funding specifically directed towards building maintenance and extra supplies.
