Montana State Library

Montana State Library

The Challenge

To increase the number of librarians in the state of Montana who have earned a graduate degree in library science and to demonstrate the value of having professional librarians in Montana’s libraries.

The Strategy

Planned and implement a statewide promotion/recruitment campaign designed to attract Montana residents to the library profession

Developed a wide variety of media including posters, brochures, newspaper ads, radio ads, television ads, short video testimonials and a website to capture the target audience of current library staff without MLS degrees and college seniors, with a special emphasis on American Indians in both groups.

Worked with television stations, radio stations and newspapers to strategically place all media and reach key audiences.

The Success

The campaign and scholarships increased the number of professional librarians working in Montana with an MLS degree.

The campaign was so successful that the Montana State Library extended the grant in 2006 and awarded another nine scholarships.

Library services have been improved for residents across Montana.
